I read James Kemsley’s version of Ginger Meggs ever since I learnt how to read, and he had inspired me to draw and wanting to be a cartoonist when I grew up. That never eventuated, but for ages I read the regular comic strip.
I even briefly met the guy when I was in my teens, and taught me how to do “scratch etches” in the corner of pictures to give it that more shadow feel.
