Leyland Brother dies

Mike Leyland, one half of The Leyland Brothers, has died of Parkinson’s Disease, aged 68.

Mike and his brother Mal, were hugely known for The Leyland Brothers TV show which explored the Australian outback. Viewers would write in and tell Mal & Mike where to go.

On the early 1990s, they tried to cash in on their major success by opening a theme park near Newcastle, NSW. Unfortunately, the theme parked failed within months of opening. However, bits and pieces of the park still exists – a scaled down fibre glass Ayres Rock that served as a food court in the park, has been converted to a petrol station. “The Rock” is located between Taree and Newcastle.
