End of a Geo-era

Yahoo has announced the end of the free GeoCities web hosting and site developing, which closed officially today.

The closure was to try and secure a financial loss that Yahoo was discovering, as their profit margins had fallen down 12%.

Site owners on GeoCities have been offered a $5 12/m contract with their paid site hosting, if they wish to continue with their site.

I remember the day I owned geocities.com/SiliconValley/Way/4406 domain. It had a handful of pictures and a html page which I said hello to friends from school. This was back in the day when 33.6 dial-up modem would cost $500 and it was the fastest around.

Memories..
