At time of post, today (6 December) marks the two year anniversary of the passing of Richard Marsland.
Marsland was a comedy writer, performer, and best white-anter known in the Australian performing arts industry, as well as the ultimate panel operator for a commercial radio station. Mostly known for his up and cummance on Triple M’s “Get This” with Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee, Richard would sit in the background of the show, pushing buttons and cross-fading magically, making the show sound shit hot.
While quiet at heart, Tony eventually found a use for Richard, and eventually coaxed him out from being in the background, to having a regular spot on air. This happened during the second year of broadcast, before the show was eventually axed by Triple M management.
During his broadcast days, he came up with some comedic gold. From White-anting and blue sky sessions, to singing Stan Bush – You’ve Got The Touch and Vengaboys – We Like To Party (Vengabus is Coming), to sorting out Kavalee’s mess that is Donkey Courtroom, singing The Shaft Of Hope, and prank calling celebrities with sound bites of Warwick Capper, Richard has left behind a legacy which cannot be replaced.
Richard sadly took his life 6 December 2008, after losing a long fight with depression. He is and always will be missed.
